Standards and Testing
Standardized tests have become a practical way for schools and school districts to determine how well they are doing as an academic institution, and how well their students know and preserve relevant information. There are both positive and negative pieces that are a result of standardized testing. One of the most familiar reasons standardized tests are used is that they make every student accountable for the same level of educational material. This way, when a student advances on to the next grade, the educator recognizes that all students have been taught the identical ideas and theories, in spite of the demographics of the school. In many states, passing standardized tests are mandatory for students in order to complete high school. There are also several states that are in the process of using tests to not only gauge the achievement of the students, but to also apply the student’s test results to the success of the teachers.
